Formal work experience with industry based NCEA standards while you are still at school provides valuable insight into a possible career choice. - Check with your Schools Career Advice Team to find out if they run this programme. Student Work Placement: Students work as an unpaid intern for one day each per week, for a period of 5-10 weeks, in an industry area they are considering training for with after finishing school

When you get work experience you see first-hand what happens in a typical day on the job. You can:
get an idea of what you like and don't like about that job
ask people doing the job about how they got into it and what they like about it
meet people who you can ask for help to find a job later on
learn about all the other jobs in the workplace and if you might like them.
You study for NCEA credits
Theory NCEA unit standards are completed during your Gateway timetabled subject or in your study periods at school.
Practical NCEA unit standards (if applicable) are assess by Industry Assessors in the workplace.
